Coral and Cameo of Torre del Greco: national green light for PGIs. The recognition will be available to all consortium members
The Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy has successfully concluded the national review. The two Torre del Greco excellences are among the first four Italian craft productions admitted to the European phase.
Torre del Greco, 29 July 2026 – The Coral of Torre del Greco and the Cameo of Torre del Greco have obtained from the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy a favorable national decision for registration as Protected Geographical Indications for craft and industrial products, the so-called non-agri PGIs.
The two applications submitted by the Consorzio Corallo e Cammeo Torrese are among the first four accepted in Italy under the new European protection system, together with Murano Glass and Burano Lace.
Thus ends positively the national review provided for by Regulation (EU) 2023/2411 and regulated in Italy by Legislative Decree 2 April 2026, no. 51. The favorable decisions will now be forwarded by the Directorate-General for Industrial Property – Italian Patent and Trademark Office to EUIPO, the European Union Intellectual Property Office, which will continue examining the applications at European level until the final registration of the names.
One of the most important aspects of the recognition is its collective nature.
Once final registration is obtained, the PGI mark will not be reserved for a single company, but may be used by all consortium members for products compliant with the respective specifications and in accordance with the предусмотрed control procedures. The recognition will therefore become a concrete, shared tool available to local businesses to protect, certify and enhance their productions.

Recognition of the two PGIs would represent a key tool to protect the names from imitations and improper uses, ensure greater transparency for consumers, and enhance a productive heritage that identifies Torre del Greco worldwide.
The Consorzio Corallo e Cammeo Torrese will continue to follow with the utmost attention the final phase of the European process, pending EUIPO’s final decision.
